Which server(s) are you applying to? (Trade Server, Jailbreak, etc.) – Trade Server
How long have you been trading? (Only answer if applying for Trade servers) – Since the late 2000s, but took a break after 2014 from TF2, focusing on the trade stuff for Rocket League and CS, then came back in the last couple years for both TF2 and CS.
How many hours do you have in the game(s) you're applying to (CSGO/TF2)? - ~1500 hours each for both TF2 and CS
Do you have previous moderator/admin experience? – No mod experience at least in the trade server sense. I run my own discord server for my friends. I previously ran a network of groups on Smule (karaoke app) of over 1500 people across 15 groups, including my own, which had around 300 members, which I headed with 5 subgroups with their own hierarchy, holding events and intergroup competitions.
Do you have a reputation thread? (Only answer if applying for Trade servers) – Yeah, I have some rep, primarily for cash trades that I’ve done.
When you are encountered with a scammer and you don't have enough info, how will you best go about dealing with this? – Easiest thing to do is get perspectives from both sides to see what was going on, then back this by asking for evidence from both sides to corroborate their stories and come to a clear picture of what may have happened. Scammers will tell you one thing, then are "hesitant" to provide you data needed to verify it. Rarely, you get both people trying to pull a fast one on each other, then one ends up getting played harder than the other. You can also check backpack.tf to see what exactly was traded. With cash, that’s the wild west unfortunately, and that’s a legal battle that the user will need to traverse. There’s also viewing the suspect’s profile, their backpack page, as well as their rep thread to get an idea if they are a repeat defender. For the victim, the hardest pill to swallow is the lesson of needing to verify every transaction, so you don’t get a random high-priced item embedded in as bunch of keys during a counter offer, as well as needing 2-factor authentication, so you have two opportunities to check the trade.
What do you think Admins/Mods can improve on in the group/servers? – I am a firm believer in the first amendment, but there are some things that shouldn’t be said about or to others in a trade server. Mike Tyson once said, “Social media made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”
What will you do to maintain and grow the group/servers? –Trading is about 2 things. Supply and demand. Right now, TGP is the game in town for high tier TF2 trading. That creates high demand. The question is how to maintain that level of demand, in order to continue promoting its status as the premiere server in both TF2 and eventually in CS2. You engage with the community, get a feel for what’s working, what’s not working, then incrementally incorporating suggestions to improve the server. Adapting to change is key and complacency/stagnation is what kills a trade server. And you need a guy who provide some benefit to the server in this regard.
What will you bring to benefit our group/servers? – Crazily, I’m a top 600 backpack, which provides a level of credibility to the high-end trading aspect of the sever. Additionally, it means providing some arbitrary added value and legitimacy to the admin group. You also need a guy who can teach kids how to trade, which is what I do the side to prevent these children from making the same mistakes I did at their age. I use the autotrade function to provide answers to questions people generally think about, which may be helpful for like bidding, or key to ref value to $ valuations, as well as provide constant reminders to gamblers to use a middle man with all the random runners you see in other servers. But most importantly, what you need is stability at the top end. A guy who people already talk to for advice and valuation of stuff, who has some level of connection or at least knowledge to suggest who they should go to for trading an item they have. Further, I'll even double check buy and sell orders for auctions, as ultimately, that's the primary driving force that locks the server out for hours. And the main way to maintain that level of engagement is to ensure those run smoothly and nobody gets screwed over when it could have been prevented. Now, ultimately, people have to make their decisions, but silent monitoring of what is being posted will help ensure some quality assurance. But especially since these people are putting that data pre-inputted before they come up, another admin can crosscheck these with backpack and STN. And not guaranteeing validity of prices means that we're not liable either for mistakes. That level of engagement and evaluating behavior of our community is how you tailor the experience to the general user. And that all-encompassing cohesion is how you drive demand, especially in a server with 42 slots. Because a full server means people want in. And to guarantee “an in,” you drive up the demand VIP+, which is what ultimately provides this server a steady stream of loyal users and funding to keep it afloat in the long term.
Will you be able to coordinate with TVirus and other admins to hold events on the server? – Yeah, definitely. I’ll just need to know in advance for when things will happen. I have periodic meetings, so I’ll need some heads-up if there’s as time commitment.
What time are you usually on? – I typically get Thursdays off and most weekends. I usually get on for most auctions, but I’ll typically just chill in the server after work while doing other things, which is around 1900 PST. On my days off, depending on what I’m doing, I could be on in the morning.
Give us a little information about yourself (Minimal, Don't dox yourself) -Multipotentialite, ENFP, Enneagram 7 with no wing. I have my doctorate and now in my career job. Gaming, aside from music, is how I relax or wind down. I was the nerd, band geek, jock, and social prep who weaved in and out of social circles, able to get along with everyone at some level.
Any current admins are you familiar with? – T-virus, Taco Tamer, Festive Morgan, Epsilon, Aistrrr, and prior admins like Mr. Pablo
Thanks for your consideration.
